fall

Fall is finally here, and as the weather cools and the leaves begin to change color, our beer preferences change as well. We say goodbye to the pale ales, crisp pilsners, and tart sours that we enjoyed all summer long, and search for darker beers with a stronger mouthfeel and higher ABV; the types of beers that can help warm you up while you sit on the couch and watch Sunday football or while you are wear a hoodie and rake leaves.

The Beers:

  • Midnight Brewery Rockville Red: This Irish Red Ale is a beautiful blend of caramel malts and earthy hops. Sessionable at 5.5% ABV, and full of flavor to complement an array of cuisine. Caramel notes and a roasty finish make this well balanced beer a friend to burgers, barbeque and dessert! 23 IBU
  • Bell’s Two Hearted Ale: A classic American IPA that is brewed with 100% Centennial hops from the Pacific Northwest and named after the Two Hearted River in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, it is bursting with hop aromas ranging from pine to grapefruit from hop additions in both the kettle and the fermenter. Well balanced with a malt backbone and combined with the signature fruity aromas of Bell’s house yeast, this beer is remarkably drinkable and well suited for adventures everywhere. A perfect pairing with freshly picked fall apples! 7% ABV
  • Union Craft Brewing Foxy Red IPA: “Northern Native American tribes believed that the Red Fox was a wise and noble messenger. Other tribes saw her as a dangerous prankster. Foxy Red IPA is a bit of both. This sly girl creeps out of her den when the night air gets just a little chill and the Autumn leaves begin to turn. Don’t be
fooled by the color as Centennial & Columbus hops, bursting with their piney and fruity resins, combine with this rich, red ale to create a perfect balance of juicy hops and bready malt to usher you gently into the colder months. This seasonal IPA won’t be around long, so catch her if you can.” 6.5% ABV, 75 IBU
  • Boulevard Brewing Tough Kitty Milk Stout: This new beer from Boulevard features layers of caramel and chocolate malt complexity. The addition of rolled oats in the mash tun and milk sugar in the wort kettle lend a round, silky mouthfeel to the beer. Subtle hopping with Bravo and Cascade creates just enough bitterness to prevent the beer from being overly cloying. Deep black in color, Tough Kitty opens with aromas of bittersweet chocolate, espresso and toffee that transition to flavors of the same. 5.5% ABV, 27 IBU
