Come out tonight from 5-7p to try some wines that are perfect for Spring with Jenalyn, including two news ones and two old Shop favorites!

The Wines:

  • Gruet Blanc de Noir NV: Founded in 1984, Griet Winery is a sparkling wine house in New Mexico that makes some of America’s best Methode Champenoise! Family owned and run, they produce Pinot Noir and Chardonnay based wines with roots originating from Gilbert’s Gruet’s Champagne house in Bethon, France. French for “white of black,’ Blanc de Noirs describes a sparkling wine made from dark skinned grapes that are gently pressed and their juice runs off the skins without color. Here it is 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay, a blend that is similar to many classic NV Champagnes. Very pale salmon in color, this full-bodied wine has a very fine mousse and a creamy, rich texture from 24 months of bottle aging. Complex aromas of raspberry, baked pear, and cherry are complemented by touches of toasted vanilla. This is a great bottle of bubbly with a wonderful history!
  • La Carraia Orvieto Classico DOC 2016: Orvieto Classico is one of the best known white wines from Central Italy. Its long history begins with the Etruscans and continues in the Middle Ages when it was a Papal favorite. It is a classic Italian white, made from native varietals – 40% Grechetto, 30% Procanico, 20% Malvasia, and 10% Verdello – grown in vineyards surrounding the historic hilltop town of Orvieto. To preserve its hallmark freshness, it is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Pale yellow in color, elegant and intense aromas of Mediterranean flowers complement undertones of citrus fruits and apples. On the palate, it is fresh and full with good acidity balancing a long, pleasing finish. This is a great spring and summer wine that pairs wonderfully with light citrus-y salads, lightly-seared scallops, chilled soups, and grilled fish.
  • La Spinetta Il Rosé di Casanova IGT 2017: The vast majority of our La Spinetta’s efforts are dedicated to the vineyards, which are treated with the utmost care, attention and respect, particularly in regards to agronomic practices and production quantities. They utilize no, or the absolute minimum possible amount of chemicals and maintain a relatively small production (75% of the vineyards are worked according to biodynamic principles). They have purchased their vineyards and have carefully selected them, all of them face south, south-east or south-west and most are filled with old vines (35-65 years old). They believe that only vines of substantial age are able to contribute minerality, longevity, complexity, and the particular characteristics of a distinct terrain to the wine. This rosato comes from Casanova, Tuscany from a sustainable farmed vineyard that uses no herbicides or pesticides and is 50% Sangiovese and 50% Prugnolo Gentile. It was harvested in the beginning of September and has one hour of contact with the skins in the press before fermentation with natural yeasts. The wine has a slightly spicy character and fruity notes of white peaches, minerality, and crisp finish. This a flavorful, versatile, and downright fun wine!
  • Root:1 Heritage Red 2015: Located between the Andes and the low coastal mountains of the Pacific Ocean, the warm, dry vineyards of Trinidad in the Maipo Valley, are world-renowned for producing outstanding red wines rich in color, with fresh, fruity aromas and pure varietal character. The granite and yellow clay slopes maintain ideal moisture for the vines during the ripening season, while the coastal winds provide soft cooling influences of the Pacific. This exquisite blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Carménère, 15% Syrah, and 7% Petit Verdot is co-fermented in stainless steel and 70% of the wine is aged for ten months in 50% American and 50% French oak. This wine has aromas of cherries, blueberries, blackberries, black pepper and delicate notes of cassis, toffee and dark chocolate. Its silky tannins and good structure create a perfectly-balanced framework for this full-bodied wine with its elegant finish of chocolate covered fruits. This is a great inexpensive party wine for grilling out or having a few people over for pizza!
