The Wines:

  • Vending Machine Wines Pet-gNat 2016: Vending Machine wines are a small husband and wife company that specializes in special blends of superb juice packaged in artistic and fun packaging at reasonable prices. The company was born in Louisiana, but is based on wines from Napa and the surrounding areas, and it shows. The wines have their own voices. This pet nat is made using methode ancestrale, and is 100% Aleatico from across Napa. Don’t be worried about the sediment in the bottom of the bottle, chill it down, store upright, try not to shake it up too much, and just don’t pour that last half glass. Fruity and fizzy, a great party sparkler for when you are gathered together with your friends!
  • Stangeland Pinot Gris 2013: We love the wines from Stangeland here at the Shop! It is a small family-owned winery that was planted by the Miller family in 1978 on a unique southern exposure in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA at a 350 foot elevation northwest of Salem. This hilltop location, rich soil, and cool climate viticultural region of Oregon combine to create an ideal growing environment that allows them to specialize in handcrafted estate and single vineyard wines. This wine was harvested from the estate vineyard (9/26/13) and Vermeer Vineyard (10/13/13) for a blend of added complexity. Notes of tropical fruit, pear, and apple are complimented by nice acidity in the finish for a great balanced wine. Don’t sleep on pairing this wine with food … it goes with just about everything, including nothing … seafood, pork, lemon chicken, hot & sour soup, hot wings, thai food, and more!
  • SoDo Cellars “Wingman” GSM 2014: Are you looking to impress at your holiday party but not break the bank? Looking to show off your wine chops and highlight a talented winemaker? Then, Wingman is your wine. SoDo Cellars is the second label project from the very talented Ryan Crane of Kerloo Cellars (we have also gotten in their single-vineyard Klipsun Cabernet Sauvignon, if you are interested). It is a marvelous wine and a great value! Mostly Grenache (69%), with touches of Syrah (5%) and the remainder Mourvèdre (26%), it’s full of beautiful blue fruit with great pronounced aromas of black raspberries and pepper. The judicious use of oak and the wonderful fruit expression make this a quaffable wine. Definitely one to stock up on for the party season!
  • Clos des Papes “Le Petit Vin d’Avril” Vin de Table NV: The history of Clos des Papes harks back to the 17th century. Even then, the Avril family was famous in Châteauneuf-du-Pape; they were municipal consuls and treasurers between 1756 and 1790. Current winemaker Vincent Avril’s grandfather, Paul Avril, sold red and white wine under the Clos des Papes label in 1896. He was one of the pioneers for the founding of the “appélation controllé Châteauneuf-du-Pape“ – which was also the first in France. Even then, Clos des Papes was widely known. Paul-Vincent’s grandfather Régis Avril (1901-1987) supplied the Elysée Palace, the residence of France’s Presidents, during the time of de Gaulle and Pompidou. Today, in addition to his world class Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Vincent Avril makes this tasty everyday wine, which comes from excellent vineyards located in the immediate vicinity of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Besides the traditional grape varieties from the region (Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, & Syrah) this wine also contains a small amount of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. All of the vineyards are farmed organically and this particular wine is a blend of two vintages. It is deep, rich purple in the glass with distinct aromas of wild berries, herbs and spices! Smooth on the palate and of fine structure. Bewitching to the finish, a definite Christmas wine!christmas season
