These are our local guys! Named Small Brewing Company of the Year in 2015 and currently vying for top position in USA Today’s 10 Best Brewery Tours, Port City is the oldest packaging brewery in metropolitan Washington, D.C. With the recent release of Colossal Seven, they are celebrating their seventh year of brewing in Alexandria, VA. Tonight, we have Nick (aka The Beermonger) behind the Tasting Bar with four of their quality brews!

The Beers:

  • Optimal Wit: “When something is optimal, it has everything it needs and nothing it doesn’t. Our witbier has the perfect amount of spices, wheat, and hops. Brewed in the traditional Belgian style, Optimal Wit is crisp and citrusy with layers of flavor that evolve in the glass. In addition to classic wit ingredients like Virginia-grown wheat, Spanish orange peels, and coriander, we brew Optimal Wit with Grains of Paradise, which adds a subtle peppery finish. It tastes like Sunshine and Happiness! This beer was the first Port City beer to roll out to the markets in 2011.” 4.9% ABV, 15 IBU
  • Metro Red: “Metro Red is our hoppy red ale, a nod to the West Coast. There was so much positive feedback when it debuted for DC Beer Week 2015 that we had to bring it back. The 6.5% ABV beer marries juicy, citrusy hops with a biscuity, slightly sweet malt character – a study of boldness in balance. Take a sip and think of orange marmalade on toast.” 6.5% ABV, 60 IBU
  • Integral IPA: “Integral IPA is all about big, complex aromas, coaxed from some of your favorite new school American hops. A refined, dry body serves as the golden-hued canvas for layers of hop character – think overripe pineapple, guava, and melon. You can thank HOPZOOKA and hop-bursting for that.” 7% ABV, 60 IBU
  • Colossal Seven Scotch Ale: “To celebrate seven years of brewing, we’ve crafted a Scotch ale with a full body and rich copper color. Plumb its malty depths and you’ll find notes of raisin bread and chewy caramels complemented by a subtle roastiness.” 8% ABV, 25 IBUport city
