Come out and taste with Anthony Van Nice, President and National Sales, from Soléna Estate!

After successful careers in the Oregon wine industry, the husband and wife team of Laurent Montalieu and Danielle Andrus Montalieu purchased an 80-acre estate to commemorate their marriage in 2000. In May 2002, they launched Soléna by bottling their first vintage of Domaine Danielle Laurent Pinot Noir and, shortly thereafter, opening a tasting room in Carlton. Soléna is the combination of the Spanish and French words Solana and Soleil, celebrating the sun and the moon, and the name that Laurent and Danielle gave to their daughter.

Soléna Estate began as a way to explore winemaking with other varietals grown in neighboring appellations while the family’s young Domaine Danielle Laurent vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton District matured. In May 2007, Danielle and Laurent added the spectacular 100-acre Hyland Vineyard in the McMinnville AVA to their estate vineyard holdings. Today, Laurent and Danielle are producing Pinot Noir from their estate vineyards as well as Pinot Gris, Merlot, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Late Harvest Riesling from select sites throughout Oregon and Washington.

The Wines:

  • Pinot Gris 2016: For the third consecutive year, the Willamette Valley was treated to a near-perfect vintage. With higher spring temperatures leading to the earliest bud-break on record, it looked to be a challenging run ahead. But with cool and consistent weather throughout the ripening period, 2016 looks to trump even the much lauded 2014 and 2015 vintages. This blend of 99% Pinot Gris and 1% Gewurztraminer really shows the finesse and elegance that is possible from the Willamette! It is crisp and light with notes of ripe apricot, pineapple, fresh baked bread, and white floral notes of jasmine and honeysuckle. Only 1587 cases made!
  • Wild Hills Pinot Noir 2016: Wild Hills Wine Company Pinot Noir is owned and operated by Laurent Montalieu, a pioneer in the Oregon wine industry since 1988. The grapes come from Laurent’s Wild Hills Vineyard in Willamette Valley’s Monmouth County, bordering the Dundee Hills appellation The ideal climate, unique terroir and well adapted clonal selections make it a perfect source for wines of substance, individual character and outstanding price/quality ratio. This wine is defined by cherry, strawberry and rhubarb notes. The bright fruits are balanced by slightly earthy notes. Pinot lovers will find this a great value from a region known for great quality!
  • Grande Cuvée Pinot Noir 2014: The 2014 vintage has the richness and power of 2012 but the restraint and balance of the classic 2013 vintage. Fresher and more balanced than 2009, and every bit as powerful, this vintage of a lifetime was one of Oregon’s best ever. From bud-break throughout harvest, growers and winemakers statewide experienced almost ideal growing conditions that delivered a record amount of exceptional, balanced fruit. This 100% Pinot Noir is bright red in color with a vibrant and fruity nose. Aromas of black cherry, plum and blackberry compote entice the nose while the soft mouthfeel gives way to flavors of dark fruit with elements of bramble, leather and licorice.
