The Wines:

  • Steenberg Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc NV: This Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc is made to be fun, fruity and fresh. The base wine is made in the traditional method, harvested by hand and gently whole bunch pressed at low pressures. Fermentation took place at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks and took three weeks to complete. The secondary fermentation in bottle took three months to complete. The nose bursts with aromas of passion fruit, pink grapefruit, melon, guava, mango and green fig. The palate is fresh and zingy with hints of pineapple and passion fruit with a long, lingering aftertaste and a refreshing finish – perfect for a hot summer’s day.
  • Les Dauphins Côtes du Rhône Réserve Rosé 2016: From vineyards in the Southern Rhône Valley, South of Drôme and North of Vaucluse with chalky/stony soils and a mediterranean climate that is marked by the famous mistral wind. This blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Cinsault,  and 10% Syrah is picked at perfect ripeness during the night and early morning to preserve freshness. Lightly pressed, fermented, and aged on less for 2-6 months. Bright pink with lychee aromas, this is a full-flavored and refreshing wine with a crisp finish. Perfect as an aperitif but pairs well with salads, appetizers, and grilled white meats.
  • Bodega Matsu El Picaro 2013: Selected from 90 year old vineyards of 100% Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) that has been cultivated using the biodynamic techniques. The grapes were harvested manually during the first fifteen days of October and transported to the winery in small crates. Fermented in concrete with malolactic in new French Oak for six weeks. This wine has not been filtered nor clarified using aggressive methods to preserve its natural characteristics. This wine is a true expression of its youth! It has an intense aroma – blackberries & blueberries, mineral notes also appear, creating a fresh wine with complexity. In the mouth, again this wine dominates with fruit; though at the same time it has nice tannin and acid, contributed by the maturity of the grapes from which this wine is made. Pair with hard cheese, charcuterie, and grilled meats.
  • Finca Decero Cabernet Sauvignon 2013: Decero, meaning “from scratch”, was born of a bare patch of land and a family´s love affair with wine. Starting “decero” was exactly how Thomas Schmidheiny dreamt of beginning a world-class vineyard, free from constraint of tradition and full of passion. The beautiful yet desolate spot Thomas had found was cradled in the heart of Agrelo, in the foothills of the Andes. This land, bare apart from wild shrubs, was to become the Remolinos Vineyard. Located at 3500 feet, in the renowned Mendoza appellation of Agrelo, our one-of-a-kind Remolinos Vineyard takes its name from ‘remolinos’ – whirlwinds which keep the grapes dry and in perfect condition before being handpicked each vintage. This 2013 is from a cooler vintage with more pronounced acidity and aromatics. This is a great wine for food pairing and cellaring, with silky tannins and great notes of cassis held together by a nice backbone of acidity. Very elegant and refined.
