That is Union Craft Brewing’s tagline and underlying philosophy. They believe that good beer brings good people together for good times and for good work. Situated along the Jones Falls river, in the historic Woodberry neighborhood of Baltimore, the Union Craft Brewery makes great beer and great company. With reverence for tradition and place, we brew beers that unite old and new ideas, the science and craft of brewing, and boldness and balance of flavor. Founded in the fall of 2011 by Kevin Blodger, Adam Benesch and Jon Zerivitz, brewing operations officially began in the spring of 2012 with the installation of a 20 barrel brewhouse and the initial launch of Duckpin Pale Ale.
They are currently working on building out the UNION Collective, which will transform 10.5 acres and 138,000 square feet of warehouse space located at 1700 W. 41st Street in Baltimore’s neighborhood of Hampden-Medfield into an interactive and collaborative assembly of several of Baltimore’s growing independent businesses. With 87,000 square feet adjacent to UNION Craft Brewing’s new headquarters, brewery and taproom, the project will be home to eight other commercial tenants. Local makers, non-profits, and other businesses will produce and sell their wares on site, share resources, collaborate, and connect with the community at large. Construction on the project began August 2017, and is expected to be completed in Spring 2018.
The Beers (in no particular order):
- Blackwing Lager: “This crisp clean dark lager begins with hints of roasted coffee beans and rich chocolate but showcases a surprisingly light body and mouthfeel. This Schwarzbier (German for “Black Beer”) is moderately hopped with Noble German hops that complement the delicate malt backbone. Not to be underestimated this light lager is a true champion of flavor! Caw!” 4.8% ABV, 27 IBUs
- Double Duckpin DIPA: “When we first brewed Duckpin, our little session-style pale ale, it really hit the spot for a go-to, anytime refresher. But we soon felt like we were just practicing. Knocking down all those little Duckpins just made us thirsty for something bigger! So we went back to the brewhouse and doubled down on malts and hops. The result is a double IPA that’s danker than a rental shoe and rolling with ten frames of juicy, resinous hops down a solid lane of malted barley and wheat. When it’s time to bring your A game, reach for a Double.” 8.5% ABV, 90 IBUs
- Rye Baby IPA: “Rye Baby IPA ain’t for no squares! Brewed with floor malted English Marris Otter and a hefty charge of rye malts, this beer brings a spicy malt presence to the scene. But its the hops that are the stars of this hep ale. We hopped Rye Baby with copious amounts of Chinook and Simcoe hops and then dryhopped it with a blend of the two to give it an amazing hop character that will make you the baddest delinquent in Baltimore! We think Rye Baby is a delicious beer that you’ll be burning inside to drink, and if that’s a crime we’ll stand convicted!” 6.5% ABV, 78 IBUs
- Skipjack Pils: “Skipjack Pils is brewed with real Bohemian Pils Malt! Super clean and crisp, Skipjack is brewed with german Mandarina Bavaria and Michigan grown Zuper Saazer hops. It’s light malt body and grassy citrus flavor and aroma will keep you moving fast on the water. You’ll love the cut of our jib with this easy drinking, super refreshing true Bohemian Pils.” 5.1% ABV, 38 IBUs
