- Alcesti Zibibbo 2016: A grape brought to Sicily by the Phoenicians, Zibbibo offers great minerality, freshness, and delightfulness. Hand-harvested and softly pressed, the juice is cold fermented before being aged in stainless steel for 4 months. The nose is one of intensity with citrus, stone fruits, and white flowers. On the tongue, it is dry with a distinct mineral note and matching notes from the nose. This wine is ideal for aperitifs or to pair with salads and Mediterranean fish dishes. 100% Zibbibo (aka Muscat of Alexandria)
- Domaine Vertriccie IGP Ile de Beauté Rose 2016: Vetriccie is the local wicker that grows widely around the vineyards of Corsica and is a symbol of their connection to nature. Located in the town of Aghione, on the Costa Serena, the Vetriccie estate was bought by the Barcelo family in 1966. Today, the 300 acre estate is run by Daniel Barcelo, who returned home after making wine in several new world countries. They are well positioned between the sea and the mountains. They grow both continental and native varietals on this recognized terroir of the AOP Vin de Corse. This rose is a blend of 40% Niellucciu, 30% Sciaccarellu, 15% Grenache, and 15% Merlot. The grapes are picked at night to preserve their aromas and to prevent oxidation. They pressed immediately and fermented using temperature controls. This pale pink wine is fruity and crisp with a richness and length that makes it perfect for food. Pair it with a hearty salad, roasted chicken, or grilled meats.
- Alcesti Frappato 2015: One of the oldest varieties found on Sicily, these grapes are cultivated in the hills of Agrigento from a vineyard planted in 2004. Hand-harvested and gently crushed before maceration at controlled temperatures, this wine ages in stainless steel for about 6 months and another couple months in bottle before release. It has a ruby red color and a nose of red berries and pomegranate, with just a touch of flowers. The palate follows with a freshness and balanced tannins. Pair with tomato-based pasta or try it with some fish, like pistachio-crusted tuna! 100% Frappato
- McPherson Cellars “EVS” Windblown 2016: From David McIntyre at the Washington Post: “A Rhone-style blend of grenache, mourvedre, carignan, petite sirah and syrah, this stylish wine from pioneer Texas vintner Kim McPherson is an excellent partner for red meat and poultry dishes. It also is delicious on its own, so it will be a nice one for pulling parlor tricks on your friends and surprising them with a Texas wine.”
