Come enjoy some high values from the lower hemisphere! Chile and Australia are both superstars in southern hemisphere winemaking. Both countries have the ability to grow a broad range of interesting varietals and styles at surprisingly affordable prices.

Friday’s Wine Selections:

Madfish Sauvignon Blanc Semillion:”Picturesque Madfish Bay is located in the remote southern corner of Western Australia. The bay’s tranquility is broken when two tides meet. According to local folklore, the fish, confused by this natural phenomenon, can be observed leaping in the air as if in a state of complete madness. The MadFish wine range and label, first released in 1992, was named as an homage to this unique geographical occurrence. The superb climate of South West Australia has always been conducive to the cultivation of healthy wine grapes with attractive and vibrant fruit flavors.Mad Fish Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is a fresh, young representation of a classic blend. This Australian take on a Bordeaux classic features abundant fruit flavors and vibrant structure delivering a delicious wine to enjoy young.Night harvest at cool temperatures, immediate crushing and pressing at the winery, and cool fermentation ensures maximum fruit freshness and varietal aromatics in this wine. A small component fermented in older oak gives richness and texture to the palate.”

Cono Sur Viognier:”Cono Sur Vineyards & Winery was founded in 1993, with the vision of producing premium, expressive and innovative wines that convey the spirit of the New World. Our name refers to the company’s geographic position, representing wines proudly made in South America’s Southern Cone, on whose western edge lies Chile and its gifted wine valleys. Our logo also evokes a freehand drawing of the silhouette of South America.Dressed in a beautiful medium golden color, characteristic of this variety, this Viognier exhibits sweet fruity aromas of apricots, citrus and peaches, combined with pleasant oak notes. Root 1 Pinot Noir:”The Root: 1 Pinot Noir vineyards are located in Tapihue, a central portion of Chile’s famed Casablanca Valley, less than 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Maritime breezes keep temperatures cool while the bright daytime sun encourages a lengthy growing season resulting in wines with bright, fresh and ripe flavors. The red clay over granite soil ensures slow ripening, which enhances the development of natural sugars to balance the fruit’s refreshing acidity. Fermented in barrels and stainless steel, the Root: 1 Pinot Noir is aged for ten months in both French oak barrels (70%) and stainless steel tanks (30%).Ruby red with violet edges and rich aromas of wild strawberries, raspberries and a hint of cherry. Soft spice notes and vanilla add complexity. Medium-bodied and bright, the fresh acidity combines with ripe fruit flavors and smooth tannins for a well-rounded palate and lengthy finish.”

Root 1 Heritage Red:”Located between the Andes and the low coastal mountains of the Pacific Ocean, the warm, dry vineyards of Trinidad in the Maipo Valley, are world-renowned for producing outstanding red wines rich in color, with fresh, fruity aromas and pure varietal character. The granite and yellow clay slopes maintain ideal moisture for the vines during the ripening season, while the coastal winds provide soft cooling influences of the Pacific. This exquisite blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Syrah and Petit Verdot is co-fermented in stainless steel and aged for ten months in American and French oak.This wine shows a deep ruby red color, completmented by aromas of cherries, blueberries, blackberries, black pepper and delicate notes of cassis, toffee and dark chocolate.  The palate opens with abundant fruit-filled flavours including cherries and black fruits. Its silky tannins and good structure create a perfectly-balanced framework for this full-bodied wine with its elegant finish of chocolate covered fruits.”
